Hurricane Fiona Drenches Villa Oasis

Before making its way to the Turks and Caicos Islands this week, Hurricane Fiona left a path of devastation in Puerto Rico. News reports here mentioned that 50% of this US Territory had no power and 80% of residents had no water. Following everything these people went through in during 2017, with Hurricane Maria, we would have expected their power grid to be more robust versus Fiona than what we are seeing in these recent reports.

Luckily, even though Hurricane Fiona jumped up to a Category 4 before visiting TCI, we didn’t take a direct hit here at Villa Oasis on Grace Bay Beach. We experienced some massive winds, well above 100 mph and torrential rains, but we truly survived pretty much unscathed by comparison to our neighboring island friends. As you’ll see in the photos we’ve posted below, and this two minute video of the storm we shared on the Villas Oasis Facebook page, damage here was not very substantial.

While we did lose power overnight, it was restored by the morning of Wednesday, September 21. Surprisingly, we also never actually lost internet. And the water supply was only out because we expect that the local authorities did that as a preventative measure during the storm. But, aside from some outside tile work that needs to be taken care of in the days to come, we are overjoyed to report that Villa Oasis is back open for business!

We look forward to helping you arrange your family vacation or group outing for later in 2022 or in the new year to come!
